Many people want to have lawns that look nice. In order to get lawns to look nice, it is important to make sure the grass grows fairly evenly and covers all the spots of dirt. The two ways to do this are by plugging and sprigging. Plugging a lawn means planting plugs of grass into the lawn in order to get the lawn established.
Here are tips for plugging a lawn:
If plugs are going to be planted, plant them just before spring.
Prepare the soil. This means making holes in the soil that are about one (1) inch larger in diameter than the plugs. Space the holes six (6) to twelve (12) inches apart. Put the holes in a checker board pattern.
Remember that the grass needs enough room to grow and take root, but that the closer together the plugs are planted, the less time it takes for the grass to cover the lawn area.
The soil that is taken from digging the holes should be spread on the ground evenly.
Right before planting the plugs, lightly moisten the holes.
When placing plugs into the holes, make sure that the place where the grass blade meets with the soil is in line with the top of the rest of the soil.
